Hardwood flooring specialists in Charleston, SC
Carpet To Go Flooring has installed hardwood floors across the Charleston area for 30 years. We supply and install solid hardwood, engineered hardwood, and custom parquet from trusted manufacturers - Shaw, Mohawk, Anderson, and more.
Because we buy directly from the mills, you get real manufacturer pricing instead of big-box markup, and if you've priced the same job elsewhere, we'll beat that written bid by 5%. Our in-house crew handles every step: removal, subfloor leveling, installation, staining, and finishing - see our full flooring installation process for how a job actually runs from start to finish.

Solid vs. engineered - how to choose
Both are real wood. The difference is how the board is built, and which one you should pick depends on your subfloor, your foundation type, and our humid coastal climate.
- Solid hardwood - 3/4" plank of 100% wood, nailed down, can be refinished 5-7 times over its lifetime. Best on plywood subfloors, common in older downtown Charleston homes.
- Engineered hardwood - real wood top layer on a stable plywood core. Handles humidity swings better and works over the slab foundations common in Mount Pleasant, Summerville, and Daniel Island.
- Wide planks (5"-7") - modern look, work in both solid and engineered constructions.
- Parquet patterns - chevron, herringbone, custom inlays - all available in solid or engineered.

Learn moreWood species and stain colors
Red and white oak account for most of our installations - they're durable, take stain beautifully, and age gracefully. Maple offers a cleaner, more uniform grain. Hickory is the hardest domestic wood and holds up well in active households, while walnut brings a richer, darker tone for more formal rooms.
Stain options range from natural blonde and whitewashed to grey, fumed, and dark espresso. We bring sample boards to your home so you can see the actual stain on the actual wood in your actual light, not a print in a catalog.

Professional installation and refinishing
We install nail-down, glue-down, and floating hardwood depending on what your subfloor allows, and every job is backed by our 12-month workmanship guarantee. A lot of the older homes downtown still have their original hardwood under carpet or a coat of grime - if that's your situation, our hardwood refinishing crew offers dustless sanding, custom staining, and water-based polyurethane finishes that bring those original floors back to life.

Hardwood Flooring - frequently asked questions
Most whole-home installs take 2 to 4 days. Refinishing existing hardwood adds another 3 to 5 days for sanding, staining, and finishing.
Engineered hardwood works beautifully in kitchens and over the concrete slabs most newer Charleston-area homes are built on - the plywood core stays stable when humidity shifts. We generally don't recommend solid hardwood over a slab.
A quality solid hardwood floor can last 80-100 years and be refinished 5-7 times along the way. Engineered hardwood typically lasts 30-50 years and can usually be refinished once or twice.
We bring sample boards in your wood species and color so we can match within a shade or two. If you want a perfect blend, we can refinish your existing hardwood at the same time so the whole floor reads as one - ask about combining a free estimate for both.
